What is SKYWARN?

SKYWARN is a very special area of public service that allows you to blend your Amateur Radio operating skills with your knowledge of severe weather to provide critical real-time observations and damage assessments to supplement and validate what the National Weather Service Forecast Office is able to see on their radar and other weather instruments.  The SKYWARN volunteer severe weather spotters are trained by local National Weather Service Forecast Offices on how to spot severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and flooding. In some parts of the country, spotters also report snowfall and ice accumulation.
