Amateur Radio License Exams

STARS offers Amateur Radio license exams at its Volunteer Examiner testing sessions. Please check the ARRL website for the most current schedule of VE testing sessions in your area.

STARS generally conducts VE Testing Sessions on the 4th Saturday of each month. Please check the events calendar, as these dates can shift to accommodate holidays or special events. Testing is held at the Worth Public Library, located at 6917 W. 111th Street in Worth, IL. Testing sessions start at 10:00 AM, and walk-ins are accepted until 10:30 AM. Please try your best to be early to avoid disturbing others that are taking tests.

If you are taking your very first Amateur Radio license examination, relax, get a good night’s sleep, and eat a good breakfast. You will do just fine.

If you have a current valid Amateur Radio station license and are upgrading to a new Amateur Radio license class, please remember to bring your original and one copy of your current amateur radio station license, as well as your original and one copy of any certificate(s) of successful completion of the examination (CSCE) showing the credit you have for any examination elements you passed.

We will provide blank paper for you to use as scratch paper and collect it from you when you have completed your test. You may bring a calculator if you think you need one, but you may not have any programmed formulas in it. Write out a set of notes for yourself to review the morning of the test.
